Pocket sheath.

It's been a year and a half now that I've been carrying my amber bone and damascus peanut, with only a breal of a day here and there for my old Chestnut bone 'nut. I've come to the conclusion that it may be time to make up a pocket sheath for it. It's been long enough that it has now become a very important item to me, and the loss from sliding out of a pocket is not a peasant one.

There's a been a time or two I've pulled out a bandana from my side pocket when wearing Dockers or cargo pants, and the 'nut came sliding out on a restaurant booth seat. Of course it was noticed immediately, but it was still unsettling. I have some light leather, so I think in the next few days I'm going to sew up something like I have for my keyring sheath the classic rides in. Loss will not be acceptable.

JK, check around. They already exist (Boker for one carries large line of them. I'm sure there are others.) Of course nothing beats the heirloom feel of your own hand sewn work .

I've been carrying my small pocket knives in a pocket sheath for years now, Carl. I haven't come close to losing a knife yet.

Here's what I use.

I find that I don't even have to place the knife inside the pouch. It sits under the strap and can be removed and replaced while in my pocket. The pouch sits vertically, flap down, with a wadded up bandana next to it. There's plenty of friction between the knife and pouch to keep it in place.

I've lost a knife or two over the years. This has solved the problem for me.

I like the look of that sheath Gary, I have a couple of sheaths that knives came with that just don't do it for me, but that one seems to be a great Idea. I thought I had lost my warny peanut a couple of months back and I was really annoyed (pretty pissed off!), was really happy when I found it (in my daughters room). A sheath would not have helped that one, but it would prevent me dropping it other places. Steven

I made one up a few weeks ago after I replaced the Vic Director I lost 25 years ago, I didn't want it to have the same fate of the last one, plus I wanted to give some order to my daily carry.

I've been thinking of making up something a little different for my lighter and peanut.

I see no shame in this at all. The reason I keep my ivory scagel fruitport in the leather case is so it will not slip out easily and also to keep it as nice as possible. It means a whole lot to me as it was a gift. I don't particularly care what anyone says about it :)

Carl,

Take a look at the pocket sheaths in (non BF dealer member reference removed). (Standard disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with (non BF dealer member reference removed) in any way, I'm only a happy customer.)

Here is a simple one I made recently. I have made a few different styles now and keep coming back to this one. I can put two knives or a knife and credit cards and cash. I can put it in my pocket with the flap back and have access to the knife quickly or flap down for more security. When not in my pocket I can lay out one knife on top of the flap and admire it, with the other in its pouch.

Thanks for some of the ideas. I was going to just make a pocket sheath, but after looking at some of what you guys have, I'm gonna do a double sheath for my peanut as well as my Fenix EO1. Keep 'em both where they need to be.

These look to be just the job! Nice work.

I have a couple of French knives that came with pouches, tight fit and the rough or suede side of the leather on the outside. This ensures that the pouch stays right in the pocket until you need it.

Inspiring thread, especially the flap idea. So I decided to replace my old prototype with a proper one, also because the old one would be too small for the BF 2012 Trapper :D
I wasn't really sure about the flap at first, but there's another good point to it. It makes it much easier to access the stuff by pulling the pouch up by the flap from the bottom of the pocket.

One of the pens is a pencil, so it isn't redundant :)

Wow, I'm really liking these everyone. Keeping things together, they just seem handy. Maybe make the Congress I like so much a bit easier to carry. It should make it easier to slide those new knives in the pocket also, knowing they will have some protection.
Thanks for the thread!

Thank you very much.

Sturzi I like what you did.
Let's not forget about another forum member Alan Dodge makes a fine sheath.

Sturzi, that's gorgeous work! I can see that leather aging to a real nice patina. I've got to try to make one of those myself.

Thanks for the compliments, it's working very well so far.
SonnyJim, it's definitely worth a try. You only need a piece of leather, some string, a needle and some patience.

I have made two slip sheaths, which allows me to carry two knives per pocket without them banging together.

They are super easy to make too.

First attempt for a slip sheath.

I have another bigger one for the grandaddy barlow/sunfish/#23/ etc.

Darkened both up, but can't seem to find the pictures.

I use one of these on occasion. Around here we call this type of sheath a "buckaroo sheath". You loop it around your belt and carry your knife in it. This is one with one of my 4 1/8" GEC Stockman Knives in it. When carrying it rigged like this, I put the sheath in my back pocket but the front pocket will do to.
