This might be a dumb question, but as a newby to traditionals and pocket carry, how do you carry your traditional in the pocket slip?
I am specifically refering to the barlow style or GEC #15 pattern with a larger end (the tip-up side) and a smaller end on the pivot side.

Do you put this in the slip tip down (fat side down) or tip up (fat side up)?
Just wondering as I get used to this style of carry and I want to start molding the slip to my knife.

By the way, got the #15 Crownlifter (radio) in jigged yellow bone and I am loving this knife so far. In fact, I lifted a few crowns last night to celebrate the arrival.
Just wish I could find one with a sheepsfoot now...

I always put my knives into a pocket slip tang end first.

When I carry with a pocket slip I put my knife in tip-down. No particular reason, just feels natural to me.

I like to keep the pivot end of knife up.
In my mind it stays cleaner, though there
is prolly no difference, and depends on your
preference. I don't think there is a wrong way.

There are likely 10 other threads that discuss this subject.:D

Robin

There are many about pocket slips, I don't remember much discussion about this specific question.
I generally carry the knife with the widest part up. I'm thinking that the other way would stretch out the leather at the bottom, and the knife might not stay in the slip as securely.

ETA: in few words, what Woodrow said. ^^

Tang down in a pocket slip right next to my wallet in my back pocket. I usually carry fairly large patterns. They ride well there as my wallet keeps them up right.

I put the fat end/ tip down first. No particular reason other than it comes out easier for me.

I make all my presonal pouches out of two sided deerhide, skin side in and out. Always thin end down and tight.
I carry my sheeps foot Barlow in my fron right with nothing else. If a want to carry another I use the retrieval style
with the braided thong.

Best regards

Robin
