Pocket Slip Recommendation/Feedback Request

Hey all,
Looking to order my first pocket slip, most likely from KSF. Was thinking about the main street model, but for a GEC 14 and 25 I'm thinking it would be too big. Also, I carried a small fixed blade in a pocket sheath for a while and found it annoying to have to fish around for it. Also, once I drew the knife, I was left holding the empty sheath.

I'm really, really intrigued by the KSF/Northwoods "insider pocketslip". It basically clips to your pocket (with a magnet) keeping your knife at the top of your pocket and easy to grab without removing the whole sheath.

Does anyone have one? I would love to hear any feedback about either slip. I'm kind of right on the edge of ordering the inside but I can't find any info anywhere from anyone who has used one.

Thanks!

I have two of the KSF inside slips. They are very nice and have a very strong magnetic clip which keeps it secure in your pocket and also holds the knife. Slick design! It is perfect for knives in the GEC 77, 85, 15 range. It's not as good with larger knives, say 3 7/8" closed or longer.

Sweet! That's what I was hoping to hear. Mostly want to use it with two 3" designs. And it makes it easy to just grab your knife and put it back? You may have just pushed me over the edge to ordering one!

I recommend you look at collectorknives.net small.. email them (Mike) and tell him what you have and he will size appropriately. GEC makes an inexpensive slip that's nice, but will be too long... but it's another option for you to consider. Lastly, you could have one made. If you search on the forum there's several leather makers here.

I don't think this is what you're looking for but will throw it out as an option. The 14 is finger size.. if you have an old set of leather gloves you can cut of one of the glove fingers.

Whole nuther thought here. This deal is called a "Buckaroo Pouch" often or a folding knife pouch. It solves several of the problems you mentioned. 1) Easy access to the knife. Just pull on the thong and the pouch comes out of your pocket. 2) You can just let the pouch hang until you are done with your knife. They are inexpensive if you want to buy one and even very easy to build yourself. Pics will explain them better than I can.

The pouch passes through a slit in the thong and the whole thing is attached to your belt loop.

Stick the whole thing down in your pocket. Want your knife? Pull on the thong. No fishing.

Can be made in lots of different sizes from the small Moore Maker Trapper above to about as big as a guy would want to carry in a pocket.

For you pocket slip users of the... sweatier ilk, have you noticed your knives picking up anything from the leather when it's in your pocket. I have a cheap RR pocket slip that seemed to tarnish or rub something onto the bolster of my Robeson Barlow after a particularly hot and sweaty day.

The "Buckaroo Pouch" does look nice and would be easy to make. It could also be done with a shorter thong and just hang off the belt above the pocket. Not too short or you could not slip the sheath though the thong. Or I guess use a snap on the thong to hang it down.

I like the looks of the KSF magnetic slip. Besides slipjoint knives it could be nice to hold a CRK Sebenza/Mnandi with the clip removed.

I have noticed that recently, I am new to traditionals and have never carreid one in the summer months before. I have 2 different slips that I was EDCing and I noticed that one made my GEC #47 and NW Esky Zulu tarnish, I think, on the bolsters and shields. They took on a translucent black coating/ tint, they almost looked like black chrome. I didn't notice any pepper spots or patina on the blades. It comes off with Flitz, but, I thought that it was only me.

That's a great idea, I have a sheath with a static ball chain looped through my belt loop but I like the buckaroo pouch set up, I'll have to make one. :)

I like the (non BF dealer references removed) carrying options

Found these old pics of a Buckaroo/Folding knife pouch in action. Thought some of ya might like to see these.

So we're processing calves a few years ago on our ranch. The drought has been very bad and this whole crop of calves are downright puny. Basically their mom's abandoned them as the cows couldn't feed themselves and the calves. We're processing them getting them ready for the sale.

The wife ropes one by the head and my son comes in and catches the heels.

After worming, several shots and castrating this bull calf, my son is reaching for his Buckaroo pouch that is hanging.

Sticking the knife (Case Trapper) back in the pouch.

Knowing that there will be more calves to do and he'll need his knife again shortly, he just tucks the pouch back into his waistband, not all the way back into the pocket.

Next. Here's the other advantage to this pouch, ya can be bundled up in all types of clothing even armitas, (type of chaps) and still get to your knife if needed.

Great pics!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Went ahead and ordered one today. If I'm not happy with it I think I'll just exchange for a main street slip, also from KSF. Also, I'll plan on doing a comprehensive review of it once I've used it a little. I think there should be more info out there about this design!

Well...I guess I'm late here...but if you end up looking for a different pocket slip, I will second the suggestion for a Collector Knives slip. They come in different sizes and fit the knife perfectly. I find the KSF slips to be too wide or too long, depending on the knife in question.

Anybody got a source for a buckaroo pouch? I looked around awhile back and couldn't find one for sale. I know I could make one, just haven't collected all the tools I would need.
