I just realised that I haven't been contributing much in the way of leatherwork here lately .
I have been making a few sheaths , but haven't really bothered to photograph them because they are simple plain working sheaths that I've knocked out quickly for people locally .
I made this yesterday quickly because I had some spare time due to it raining .
It is a pocket slip made for a knife I inherited from my father recently .
Over in the Traditional forum there is a thread about Sheffield pocket knives which this particular knife is . In that thread a original pocket slip sheath was shown that is very old . I did not realise that sheaths and slips were offered by the English makers back then , I assumed that Pocket knives went in your pocket in those days .
Anyway here is an attempt to house my fathers knife .
I have not made a sheath so small before , and I will ask the collective wisdom here about Snap fasteners . I don't usually use them , and the few I had on hand seem to raise the flap up from the main body of the sheath . On a normal sized sheath this would not be noticeable , but working small has really shown this up .
Are there Snap fasteners that are very flat and dont make the flap sit up so high ?
From the picture of the original sheath it doesnt seem to have that problem , maybe they made their Snaps differently .
