I am looking to buy a cheeper pocket sharpener for "emergencies" do yall have any recommendations.

The Falkniven DC-4 is a fantastic pocket stone. The diamond and ceramic combination is perfect.

I have a DC4 too that I keep in my messenger/edc bag. I haven't used it all that much so far, but it seems to work fine.

The Eze-Lap model L with most of the handle cut off. Fits in a wallet nicely.

For a true 'emergency' hone, pretty much any Fine/EF diamond hone would do, for all blades, steels, and situations. Depending on the steel, other types might be better at really dressing up or refining and polishing an edge, but a Fine (especially) or EF diamond can put a great working edge on a blade quick. My first choice would be the DMT 'credit card' in Fine (600 mesh/25 micron). The previously-mentioned Fallkniven DC3/4 hones are very good as well.

jackknife you read my mind I was just going to ask yall about the eze lap stones. I ordered the fine 1x3 model.

I've carried that little hone for almost 20 years now, and it's kept my knife sharp on many trips far from home. That and the back of the leather Dickies work belt I wear for a final stropping, and it's hair shaving sharp in a few minutes.

The sharpener arrived today. It was my first diamond sharpener and it works great much better and cleaner than a stone. Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions.

I'm surprised Carl didn't recommend the bottom of a coffee mug. :)

And the mug is much more useful than jimh0220's rock. It will do everything the rock does plus hold coffee. :) :) :)

But the mug don't fit in my wallet. Makes a heck of a fat bulge!

I use a DMT Fine credit card stone.

I also have a small strop made from a 5" section of paint stirrer stick.

At some point, I'm going to glue some leather to back of the credit card. Hopefully will help keep the credit card from slipping.

I'd use my belt to strop, but my pants fall off when I take off my belt. Just sayin.
