So I stumbled upon this while surfing the web. I don't know if it's any good (or if there is better out there) but I just wanted to get your opion on it. I know a swiss army knife or multi-tool would be pretty much the same, if not better, but I was thinking of putting this on a key ring. Also there were a few other models but this was my favorite.

Here it is: http://pockettoolx.com/products/piranha

Ya I thought that too, I would have thought it would be a tool steel and and be like in the 60s or so. However, I was hoping someone could suggest a similar tool but stronger, although it would just be for easy projects when I didn't have access to tools, anything that might break it and I would probablywait to fix it and get the regular tools out.

45 RC should be fine for that tool. Most tools such as axes and chisels are 40-45RC. Steel in general is considered to be very hard at 50RC. It's only when steel is used mainly as a cutting tool that it gets hardened to more than 50RC. Most files are around 62-64 RC and that makes them brittle and easy to break. At the 45 RC, that tool will be very durable for its intended uses.

It looks like a good deal for the price, when you compare it to some of the titanium tools that are $100+. Most titanium doesn't hit 50RC either.

Not that I would want to spend that much, but where are these other tools. I looked all over and there were very few that looked similar to this and i certainly didn't see any for 100 bucks!(that's crazy for them to charge that much) also thanks for the response that was very helpful

Peter Atwood over at Planet Pocket Tool has been turning out pocket tools for at least 10 years in blade steels and titanium.

The Wrex is very intriguing to me, the other tools are vastly too derivative of Peter's innovations, which are admittedly expensive and hard to get, but even so, I would have to take a "pass" on them due to conceptual intellectual property issues as I see them.

I have a PocketToolX Brewzer and I like it a lot. Opens bottles nicely, prys nicely and has been durable for the 5 or so months that I've had it. I was originally going to get the Piranha, but decided the Brewzer would be a better fit on my keychain.

does anyone know if swiss tech is a good brand? I've been looking at their stuff. Also, if you do know swiss tech, what is the difference between the Micro Max and the Micro Max XI?

I like the idea of these little devices. Actually just got myself a Schrade Titanium Pry Tool. I'm sure it will see much use. $20-25
