I use a pocket watch. Have for years.
Afraid I wouldn't know about Brass ones. I use a manual wind stainless steel Hamilton made in the 70's and sold in the LL Bean catalog. It was given to me by my parents when I was in college.

I have a few,mostly old ones,early 1900s.I do carry a couple of them but never when I'm working.I've never seen any small ones,I did have one that hung on a strap from your belt,it also had a compass behind the watch but I broke the crystal wearing it while working.
