The other day I skimmed through Benchmade's online catalog. A luxuriant affair, and well-organized (every item in the table of contents was subsumed under a topic outline). But it's MY feeling that someone shd tell Benchmade that thy are not well served by thr advertising & photography team. EVERY knife's photo was posed in that fake-looking way/meant to induce optical illusions/the way so often car companys' position their cars in ads: front end is closest to and facing the lens; the rest of the car is cocked 30 degrees
off-center/to the side. From photos employing this pose, you CAN'T TELL HOW LONG THE CAR REALLY IS. Probably there are some forms of optical illusion involving depth perception that are being applied here by the admen (and, now, Benchmade has capitulated ENTIRELY to this slick, optical hocus-pocus approach). EVERY knife in the catalog!! ALL DIMENSIONS ARE DISTORTED. (And, to me, it is as
natural-looking a pose for the subject of a photo {car OR knife} as that pose that has you rest your chin lightly on your backfist.)
