I'm on the midnight shift over the Summer, and I was missing my favorite radio programs. Diane Rehm (especially the weekly news roundup), Science Friday...Sleeping through all these.
So I decided to jump on the podcast bandwagon. I didn't have the scratch for an IPod, but I found this nice little Sandisk item on Amazon for only 27.00:
512 megabite storage, and an FM tuner to boot.
At first, I didn't realize that I needed a podcasting "tool" to collect these, but the Science Friday site had a nice article, and a list of software. I'm using one called "Juice" at present:
http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/
It's free and seems to work quite well. Plug in the URL of your desired program and it downloads whenever you want. Then, you have to use Windows Media player (or most other media players) to "sync" the podcast to your device.
This just takes a few seconds though; drag-and-drop as you would when making a music playlist.
So now I'm enjoying my favorite radio shows while enduring the boring Summer nights here.
