I'm on the midnight shift over the Summer, and I was missing my favorite radio programs. Diane Rehm (especially the weekly news roundup), Science Friday...Sleeping through all these.
So I decided to jump on the podcast bandwagon. I didn't have the scratch for an IPod, but I found this nice little Sandisk item on Amazon for only 27.00:

512 megabite storage, and an FM tuner to boot.

At first, I didn't realize that I needed a podcasting "tool" to collect these, but the Science Friday site had a nice article, and a list of software. I'm using one called "Juice" at present:
http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

It's free and seems to work quite well. Plug in the URL of your desired program and it downloads whenever you want. Then, you have to use Windows Media player (or most other media players) to "sync" the podcast to your device.
This just takes a few seconds though; drag-and-drop as you would when making a music playlist.
So now I'm enjoying my favorite radio shows while enduring the boring Summer nights here.

Check out This American Life. One of my favorite radio shows and available as a podcast.

You know, I've tried to listen to Glass' show on a couple of occasions; they're always plugging it.
I don't know if it's his rather annoying speech pattern, or the fact that the individuals profiled on the couple of shows I listened to all seemed to be clueless loosers.....I suppose I should give him another try!

Another one I was missing is "Wait, wait, don't tell me!" This is the "news quiz", which is always hilarious.

Wait wait is funny. Interesting about TAL. I've liked some episodes more than others, but I think I've always enjoyed it.

Well my wife is a part of the Lime and Violet show, but that is a knitting based podcast, so it probibly won't interest you, but it is cool because she definatly got the rockstar treatment over the timebeing, doing a live show, and just getting a whole load of free stuff in the mail too.

Podcasting wise though, it's not that hard to make a podcast, it's just hard to make one that will get a lot of listeners that will come back after one episode.
