Picked up an interesting book from the browsing rack at the library. It's poetry from Iraq, written by an Army infantry guy. The jacket bio says he was with the 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry, with a prior deployment in Bosnia. The poems range from combat to observations of Iraqis, with a few reflections on life after returning to the U.S. It's worth paging through, and gives quite a different experience than news from the paper.
The author is also involved in a documentary project: Operation Homecoming: Writing The Wartime Experience. I don't know anything about the film, but it's going to be on TV April 16th, 10 11pm, EST, on PBSs America at a Crossroads (according to the publisher's website).
