After I met Pohan for the first time at Blade 2011, I decided I wanted a custom tanto made to my specs, so I went to the drawing board and drew one up on paper. Then I transferred that drawing to Autocad and emailed Pohan the rendering. The result is below.
3/16 inch thick A2 @ 62.5 RC according to Leu's hardness tester.
7 inches overall.
3.25 inch handle.
3.5 inch edge from tip to start of sharpening choil.
Red stingray wrap under epoxy impregnated nylon cord.
Bronze dragon menuki
EDIT: As you can tell, I tried to squeeze as much blade into the design as I could and still have enough grip length for me to get a 4 finger grip on the handle. My next design will be 8 inches overall with 4.25 inch of edge and 3.5 inch of grip. The remaining .25 inch comes from 1/8 inch being the thickness of the guard and 1/8 inch being the diameter of the sharpening choil. I suppose I could keep the same 3.25 inch grip as this version and have a 4.5 inch cutting edge, but the design doesn't quite look proportional this way. Still...4.25 inches of edge in an 8 inch package is very versatile.
