This parang was a commission from a customer who wanted something similar to the previous parang I posted, but gave me a free hand if I wanted to try something new. This is the result, one with more of a point to it.

The steel is 5160, triple normalized, triple hardened, and triple tempered. The integral socket handle is wrapped in olive drab paracord with coyote brown two-strand Turk's head knots, impregnated with Minwax Wood Hardener. The blade length is 14 1/2" and the overall length is 20 7/8". It shaves hair of course. :)

The customer wanted a lanyard, somthing I've never added to a bush sword before. With the integral socket handle, it was fairly simple to do, though. I tied a length of paracord in the center around the choil, ran the ends through the hollow of the handle and out the back, then tied it off.

I really like this design. I think I'll do something else with it. :D

Thank y'all!

Brad - To me, with blades the biggest part of their beauty comes from the overall flow of lines. Form follows function, so to me a blade that looks good looks like one that will function well. It looks good because it functions well. So, I'm taking a bit of a roundabout way of saying that I agree with you. :)

At the risk of getting hung up on "terms"- getting a bolo look to it and I really love it!
Nice lines, weight forward for chopping and a nice tip for drilling and finer work. Nice hump area for two handed draw knife use and hand forward use for fine work.

Bill - Yep, those were all things I was thinking of when I built it. I traced it off before heat treatment and will be revisiting this pattern in the future.

That is very nice. Does the socket handle transfer a lot of shock to the hand? It looks like it might.

I wondered that when I started making them too, but they are pretty much like a wooden handle as far as shock transferrence goes.
