Well, between the knife side and this whole Axe, Hatchet and Tomahawk thing, my wallet is lighter! Went poking around a flea market this weekend. $20 later, I left with three hatchets of unknown make and what I'm guessing is a cruiser type axe - light double bit with a short handle. I'm learning the in's and out's of axes and hatchets right now. I'll post pics when I can. One of the hatchets and the cruiser, unfortunately, had been painted by the seller for what he thought was curb appeal. I'll be stripping that stuff off.

Also, I ran across something I found curious. It was a monster of a single bit axe head. I'm 6'5, and this head was easily bigger than my open hand. If I'd have been thinking, I'd have gotten a shot of it with my phone. The edge was, well, flat, almost like a maul. I'll have to go back and get the info off of it. Any ideas on what it might be? Debating on whether to go back and get it just for kicks and grins.

Sounds like you had a productive day.

Felling axes used to be commonly available in some pretty heavy head weights. 6 pounders are fairly common.

Sucks about the paint, just more work.

Haha, you've been bitten by the bug too!
I'd say bide your time and look for heads that you know are quality and not TOO much work to refurb. Maybe that big'un is one of 'em, but maybe it's just a paperweight and your perfect big axe will be at next weekend's flea market.
