Has anyone tested any of the Power Shield garments yet? Considering that Mauldin's usually understates the performance of their fabrics I've been very tempted to get one of the "soft shell" jackets and a cap to add to my gear, but I'm reluctant to pay the price to "test" the product.

For those of you unfamilair with the stuff it's a water resistant/wind resistant "fleece" used for wet environment outdoor clothing. According to the various claims the stuff will stand up to anything short of a down pour and high winds. A nice idea for chilly east Tennessee winters that may be sunny one minute and cloudy and raining the next.

I got one of the TAD Softshell Jackets for Christmas. Very Cool. It's just right for me because, I don't like bulky jackets. Heck, it never gets cold enough here in Ala to worry with much of a jacket anyway. But of course, theres always an exception...Like the other day, the high was in the 30's and windy,,the jacket blocked out almost all of the wind and was toasty warm.

The German magazine "Outdoor" has tested softshells in one of the recent issues. The clear cut winner was the Arcteryx MX Gamma Hoody- breathable (not a windblocker, much more so than a Gore membrane), resists wetness very good and is very tough. Here in Austria, among mountain climbers its very "en vouge".
