Hi, I'm new to Spyderco and I'm looking at the Police model with G10 scales and full spyder-edge.

I see some stores show a different model than the one in the current Spyderco catalogue.

Can someone please tell me the different model numbers between these two and also which one is more prefferable as a daily self defence knife.

Thank you very much.

Top one has a saber grind and a swedge. Bottom one is FFG.

Self-defence? Police should beat Military for SD, but Endura4 Wave should beat both.
That, or get a gun.

AFAIK, the top one is photoshopped and no such knife exists, the Police 3 is only available in full flat grind, as in the lower picture.

That's exactly what I thought. But, it seems a few shops are showing that old style blade on the G-10 handles. Why would they bother to do that? Strange...

It's not an old custom Police with G10 handles neither, because it has the finger choil of the Police 3.

I have a couple Military models and one Police 3. I would greatly prefer the Police 3 in a self defense situation. Both models are great ultility blades for 4" folders. If you purchase a Police 3, it will be FFG and look like the blade in the bottom, second picture. Good luck on your purchase!

That Photoshopped image appeared about 8 seconds after the Police 3 was announced, before any real photos existed. Some vendors never change the images they use, they just stick with whatever they loaded first. I think someone took a regular Police serrated blade and 'Shopped it onto a PE Police 3 picture and they've been using ever since.

Thanks all for the help. This makes sense now, all the shops with the top photo writes in the description - flat grind blade - and that confused me. (knifeworks etc.) So it must be wrong. Except if they did a limited run of a few pieces only and as yablanowitz said never changed the photo.
Is actually a pity because I liked that police with the old style sabre grind with G10 !!
Have a nice weekend.

Probably all customers of one distributor, Moteng. They have someone who has been very creative with Photoshop in the past, I'm guessing this is another example of his or her work.
