A coworker and friend of mine showed up to work today with an interesting little piece. He asked me to identify it and give him a little more information on it, but I have never handed one in person. Being no guru of Spyderco by any stretch of the imagination, I turn to the knowledgeable minds of BF for assistance. The only thing he could tell me about it is that he purchased it, he thinks, the year (or possibly year after) he graduated high school. I believe he graduated in 2005 if I am doing my math correctly. He is a younger guy, 30 I believe. Anyway, any information you could give me would be awesome and appreciated. I was thinking of cleaning it up to perhaps sell or trade it (it's not my cup of tea, but it's buttery smooth to my surprise), so any help on either of those things would be appreciated as well.

According to SpydieWiki, it's from around 2002. It's the Police model, obviously. :D

What did you want help with, just info?

Here's a little fact. There is a mini Spyderco Police which is called the Rookie. There's a recurve Police called the Ulize.

The Police is a classic Spyderco. I remember it from before I could even afford to collect knives. Even back then I wanted one. It was just a badass knife.

You have to consider that the pocket clip on a knife was still a relatively new thing. The Spyderco Police was groundbreaking in that its Spyder hole and Pocket clip made it more accessible for a cop under duress.

2002 works too, thanks :D

Just general info, really. He knew even less than I did, but I thought it was pretty cool. I don't really know if it's something of value, worth maybe sending in to be cleaned up? I don't really do serrations, neither does he, but it was a cool find nonetheless

It's just kind of neat learning the history. I always knew it was a big deal in the Spyderco lineup, but it never really spoke to me so I never tried one. I do admit it has very smooth action and feels nice and stout.

I've got an all black one like that, but mine has a G-2 blade with engraved "POLICE", and the pocket clip has a patent number plus "foreign pats pend". And yes, the are really bad dudes.

My very first Spyder ever was also one of their stainless handled models which was the GIN-1 SE Mariner model. It wasn't long after that I got a POLICE model in full Spyderedge and I'm here to tell you that both of those models in Spyderedge were extremely aggressive cutters. Both are iconic and both for hard use as well.

Now I personally like the G-10 handled version of the POLICE model just a bit better but I can't say anything bad about any of the Spyderco POLICE models. If I was in Law Enforcement or was any type of first responder I would certainly be carrying a full Spyderedged version of the POLICE model.

They had a few of the POLICE models with Carbon Fiber handles about 10 years ago and I wish I would have kept at least one of those. They had full flat grind blades and were really nice EDC folders.

Thanks for the replies. It's always fun to learn about different models, especially some of these more popular ones.

Does Spyderco do a spa service or anything similar? I'd like to get it cleaned up as best I can.

Yep, you can send it in to be cleaned and sharpened, it will cost you $5.00 for the return shipping.

From what Sal has said in the past, the C07 Police Model has been in Spyderco's top ten sellers for over 25 years now.

Here's some pics I just snapped of my old blackie.

Love the old Police models...and the new ones as well lol
IMO Nobody's collection is complete without one, wether you're a Spyderco fan or not

Anyone know when they started/stopped putting the bug etching on the blade? My early 2005 Police doesn't have one, but otherwise looks identical to bloody_pawprint's.

So on yours "POLICE" is printed rather than engraved like mine?
