Police bushcrafter????

So I've been lucky enough to be allowed to order an Ewok from John of JK knives. And since I've spent quite some time perusing his work. Which I like quite a bit.

That being said, I began thinking about what a combination police / bushcrafter fixed blade knife might look like. Perhaps a custom type tactical.

Being an Officer for a long while now, I tend to stay away from knives labeled "police" cause they tend to be silly IMO.

What defines a police knife I'm wondering? It would need to pry I think (just speculation) , does it need to be black? Short blade for concealment (i think military wears there knives on molle, this would not apply to the Popo). I think custom would be good.

I'm looking for something but unsure of what I'm looking for (LOL) .

I'd be curious of opinions. I know this will mostly be preference but let's hear what y'all think.

I'm trying to figure out what a police officer needs a bushcraft knife for while on duty. :confused:

I'm also unsure as to why a police officer would need to conceal a knife that he is perfectly entitled to carry. They don't conceal any of their other gear (not the uniforms on patrol, anyway).

The officers that I know who carry a knife use a wide variety of factory folders from quasi-tacticals to Swiss Army knives.

In any event - since you have been an officer for a while, what do you need a knife for and what design features would best address those uses?

What have you found to do on a daily basis in your time as an officer? Have you made it this long without needing a knife? If so, you probably don't need one, though I think you should have one. I can personally name one time when a knife saved someone in my short time as a Marine MP, but that's more than enough reason, IMO.

To make a suggestion, if you want a "police/tactical bushcraft knife, look no further than the Entrek Forester

I'm just curious what one would look like Roger. Thought it would be something unique or a little different. I've kicking around some ideas for one and thought some opinions would be nice.

As far as concealment; I should have further explained (apologies), I carry a boot knife at work ( so that's what I was referring to as concealed). And ninja stars on my rig, LOL.

As far as design uses, I've been pondering that myself.

Peace

Scouter27,
I've always carried one or several at work. And that Forester is a very nice knife. Thanks for the suggestion.

Of the many designs that would no doubt serve, this one by Burt Foster has a lot going for it:

* compact
* portable
* light weight
* sharp as heck
* cool as heck
* stainless over carbon makes for a durable, corrosion-resistant finish
* relatively inexpensive

I had this "seat belt cutter" made for me by one of the makers here on the bfc. It fits my bill. 4" of 3/16 thick 1095, yellow G10 scales, and a glass break pommel. I carry it because I spend just as much time in the woods, on the job, as I do around vehicles. I can cut, pry, or shatter with one tool. The only thing that makes a knife anything is the role in which we use it in. Just my $0.02.
