Hey all... I really love the Spyderco Police model. I'm gonna get it! Thing is... it's going to be a user and I need to be easily be able todo the classic Spyderco drop opening. Does the CF make it a little harder (due to less weight) or does it matter at all?

Now on to edge type... To be honest I have no SE or CE folders... should I get the police in SE, PE or CE for a back-up defense carry and heavy duty utilty? (I want a slim profile, concealble carry with a quick draw and possibly a deep and easily concealble clip... the Police fits these criteras perfectly IMO).

Any help would be greatly appericated.

Get yourself a stainless, fully-serrated Police model, with VG-10 steel. I have one, and it's MY favorite folder!.:).

Get the CF. It is really nice looking, and makes the knife super rigid and tough.

I have both the SE and PE, but I only carry the SE because, like you, I wanted a serrated knife. The Police is really pointy and sharp.

In the CF version the Police is a very nice looking, well made knife.

Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

The Police is my favorite EDC knife. I have three SS, a PE CF and a PE G-10. I even turned an old SS model into a drone. The SS is the narrowest and also the heaviest. Lately I've carried the G-10 which I believe to be the lightest.

I'd go for the CF and whatever grind you like. You won't be disappointed with whatever choice you make.

The CF and SS Police both weigh about the same(5.5oz I think). So it would depend on what look you want, and how thick a knife you want. The G10 Police with no liner is the lightest(3.4oz I think), the G10 Police with a liner is about 4.1oz(I think). The Ti-Police is 4.4oz, and the aluminum one is about the same as the G10 Police with no liner(around 3.3oz I think). Some one should be able to verify the weights soon.
What I am thinking of is a beater SS Police, sending it off and having some holes drilled in the handle. Sorta have it "mayo"nized. It would give me a better grip(with right placement of holes) and lighter weight(hopefully). Just an idea. :)

I've had every handle version and like the Carbon Fiber the best. I have two, both plain edge. I believe they weigh the same as the stainless version, but are much better in the hand due to the increased thickness of the CF handle. I don't find them to be as slippery as the stainless or aluminum versions. I only like plain edges, but that's my personal preference. I just think it is more useful for a wider variety of tasks, is easier to maintain the edge, and slices more cleanly. As sharp as the VG-10 is I don't think you'll need to worry about it cutting through whatever you apply the edge to. You should grab one of the CF models before they are gone. I am carrying one and have the other one "in storage". It is the nicest Spyderco I've owned to date.

Alright I'm set on Carbon fiber (sorry Glockman), now... PE or SE... I don't like Serrations but this baby is gonna be my EDC when I get it... so basically say what one you would choose if you were in my shoes and that'll be the one I'll get! :D

I have a scale in front of me.
PE G-10 with liner - 4.0
PE CF - 4.2
PE SS VG-10 Boye dent - 5.6
PS SS VG-10 Boye dent - 5.6

Those are the only ones I currently have.

Thanks budman1950 everyone always has wondered that now you need to get two CF's and send one too me ;)

As for my question it is an age old one (about the serrations), but I want to know what you would buy!

IMHO, it depends on what you'd be using it for. I like PE blades since, for me, they're easier to sharpen and most of the things I cut don't really like the serrations. :-)

But if it were strictly for self defense, I'd go with serrations. I have a Matriarch around my neck for SD.

As far as which Police to get, since you're up in the air on PE vs SE, I'd go with a PS SS Police. They're not as expensive, you can find them everywhere, and if you like it, you can add others.

But, that's just what I did.

Don't be sorry, my friend...That just leaves more of the stainless Police models available for ME!.:D.

The SS model is nice, but IMO the Carbon Fiber is the way to go. I just received a CF left-handed SE model and I love it!
I'll be getting the right-handed model next.

My dream Police is the CF Plain edge.
I now carry a G10 Plain edge that never leaves my side.
I am extremely happy with G10 as I probably would be with CF too since it's so durable; in addition to being such an attractive, eye-appealing finish.
I opt for plain edge on any knife I anticipate using at all for two solid reasons: 98% of what I cut requires PE and...for ease of sharpening (Big One).

Can't bring myself to purchase a SS version (or any SS model) because they're so prone to getting those bothersome scratches which quickly ruin my pleasure of owning it--being I'm such a prick about scratched things--drives me nuts!

Long live the Police.

Inspired by this thread, I just received a G-10 Police PE. hehehehe Cool! Love the flat ground blade and the heft and feel of the G-10. It'll be a collector blade, can't carry somthing that big in the city.....

very very nice, been waiting for a Police model that I liked.......
