Police model & BM AFCK - distant cousins?

Hi Folks,

I read awhile back in a post from Sal how he understood that the Benchmade AFCK was similar in design (at least in terms of shape) to the Spyderco Police model. The original model had the "licensed" Spderco hole in it's blade. Sal suggested that to illustrate this, one could compare the two. I have been carrying my original AFCK in M2 lately, along with my toothy s/s Police as a wonderful pair. Here is a picture:

That BM is just another cheap knockoff of a spyderco.I think I could use it as a beater though if you want to send it to me.;)

I wouldn't call it a cheap knockoff. Afterall, the thumb hole was licensed to BM for the knife.
Personally I prefer the blade shape of the AFCK, but I hope the grind of the knife is good.

Boys,

Yes, I really like the AFCK. The reason I have this one in particular is that it is a legitimately "allowed" knife as far as Sal is concerned. I like the fact it has a real "Spyderhole". It is a wonderful knife, particularly in M2. What you can't see in those pictures is the custom "mother of pearl" back spacer that SC Rebel (Ron) installed in it when it was his knife...simply gorgeous.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

BM makes some good knives too. I like the AFCK (and especially the mini AFCK) - the older issues, with round hole, of course ;)

I think that the former SEAL Chris Caracci (who once ran a forum here) & "designer" of the knife had originally approached Sal & Co. to finish/produce the AFCK. I don't know the particulars, but the project didn't work out & then he went to Benchmade. The "hole" was an original design feature & liscened by Spyderco for the initial runs. Or that's how I understood the story. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
