Heard on the 6:00pm news from PA.Breaking story - there is suspicious activity in a mail box ,police have the mailbox surrounded.Further news as the story develops !!!!!!
 
A postal worker found a suspicious package in the mail box . It turned out to be harmless !

Many years ago, I was working as a superisor in a midtown Manhattan post office. One of our collectors called in. When he was taking mail from a collection box, he noticed a large manila envelope with a bulge in the middle. The address seemed similar to addresses we'd been told to watch for.

I told him to wait there, and went out to see. It didn't look good, so I had him leave that piece, sent him on his way, and stayed by the box, keeping people from putting any more mail in. We had already asked the Postal Inspectors to check it. When they showed up, one of them took the piece, held it up to his ear, and shook it violently!

I nearly fell over. :) (I wasn't smiling at the time.) They took it to x-ray, and it turned out to be harmless. The Inspector told me that they only go off when you try to open them. Yeah, right ...

Never a dull moment.
