I want to get a new Spyder but unsure which model?.Police or Chinook.I had a Police yrs ago but lost it at work:(.I have never handled the Chinook before but like the looks. This knife would be for EDC/SD but I can't make up my mind. The reason I like Spyders is because of the hole opening,I have had thumbstuds come off and lost them. This is no problem for a Spyder.:D

I have both of these fine knives. I would say go for the chinook. It is an extremley hefty knife that can be used in all sorts of heavy work applications. It was aklso desgined with SD in mind I believe. The police is nice but it is not as strong as the chinook in terms of tip strength. If you are to get the police, I would suggest you get the g-10 or the carbon fiber ones.

They are both excellent knives, and I have owned quite a few of both. The Police model is alot "easier" to carry as it is thinner, narrower, and lighter, but the Chinook is "stronger". If you have a chance to handle both of them, let your hand choose which one to buy.

The Chinook is classified as an MBC model so that would cover your SD needs. Not that a Police couldn't be used for this but the Chinook was designed for this in mind and the lock is stronger than on the Police if thats a consideration for you.

I have both and I like both but in a 'must choose' situation I'd probably go for my G10 Police. It's lighter and easier to carry for me. Doesn't take up too much pocket space and can be carried IWB. I find the opposite to be true for the Chinook.

If you prefer the heft and weight of a larger knife though then the Chinook is definitely for you.
