Police or Military

Police model, 'cause being a lefty, liner-locks suck for me...Also, I like the way the Police model fits my hand better than the Mili.

I prefer the Military,

-full flat ground blade with a hefty belly(excellent slicer),
-great ergos
-full size, very comfortable handle
-very lightweight for its' size
-the enlarged Hole

Military, because it's flat grind and has a larger hole.
I don't like the handle shape, but the performance of the flat grind will show.

Military, much more of a hard use knife than the Police.

That's alright...You guys take all the Militarys...That'll leave more Police models available for ME!.:D.

Actually, I like both but I am leaning slightly over to the Military.

I prefer the Military as well. What I'm thinking about is the fact that the Military is built with spacers that make the knife "see-through" like a Sebenza, which helps in keeping it clean, or cleaning it when it does get dirty. Isn't the Police closed in the back, like a Delica? I guess it has to be, since it's a lock-back design. I like the Military for being a liner-lock.

The Military is on my list of knives to buy in the next year.

I couldn't decide between the two,so I bought one of each. That makes the decision making process a lot easier. They are both top of the line IMHO.

Same as chains here, I got an ATS-34 black military and a Stainless ATS-55 police. Love em both it depends what you want I think you wanna stab ? Police. You wanna slice ? Military.

Police:
(+) All steel contruction makes it nearly indestructable for a folder. Very comfortable handle. Very classy looking. Lockback for lefties and spine-whack-test. VG-10 steel is awesome.
(-) Heavy. Less belly. Hollow grind. Slick grip (but easily fixed with 3M tread tape).

Military:
(+) Flat ground blade. G-10 scales offer better grip. Slightly lighter weight (4oz vs 5.5oz). Larger thumb-hole. Excellent handle design for grip and comfort.
(-) Really large and takes up alot of pocket space. Pain in the butt to sharpen (according to many folks here on the forums). Single liner. Liner-lock without a safety like LAWKS. Ball-detent is not as strong as the lockback backspring for keeping the blade closed. Not "lefty friendly".

So IMHO, the Police model is best.
The real deciding factor for me is the Military's liner-lock. I really can't quite trust a liner-lock without something like LAWKS. And even with G-10 scales, it needs another liner to be as strong as the Police.

Good luck,
Allen.

allenc-I did not like liner locks at all until I got a Military. It has got to be the best one out there.

Millies gotta be one of the most comfortable knives to hold out there ! Great blade, although it's a BIG knife it carries soooo easy in the pocket. Fast on the draw, nice big thumbhole gotta LOVE that ! Another vote for the Military

I love the Millie in theory.

I wanted one fairly badly.

I _love_ flat-ground blades, and the Police has a _really_ "abrupt" hollow grind.

And the Police model's slippery in the hand.

And it's just a hair over four inches for some reason.

But in the end, the Military just didn't fit my hand, and the Police did.

Hence the SS Police in my pocket :D

(I'm thinking that one of the old flat-ground G10 Police models might be _just_about_ the perfect large knife for me, but another $80 knife just ain't on the menu right now ;) )

And even with G-10 scales, it needs another liner to be as strong as the Police.

I don't really agree. It would be stronger with 2 liners, but it is plenty strong with one. I don't think I could break either the Military or the Police (using them properly) - they are both tough knives. The Military is very light, but VERY strong. They did that on purpose. :)

The only thing I might think is fragile on the Military is the needle pointy tip but I haven't broken mine yet. The lock is also one of the best liner locks I've ever had - rock solid!

Linerlocks on knives in the $100 price range seem to hold up fairly well. Any of the Spyderco's at least. Also you said there where alot of Complaints about the sharpening of the Military. Now that the steel has changed from CPM440V to CPMS30V, the problem should be eliminated.
-Kevin
P.S.-Just to show that I'm not guessing about the resharpening thing: I own a Native with S30V and it is fairly easy to sharpen.

I haven't had any trouble with the 440V but I don't let it get really dull either.
