I have a Police model which I bought used. The knife has a G-2 steel blade. Could some one give me the time period in which this knife was made?

Thanks

For the record, G-2 and GIN-1 are the same steel. Assuming the Police follow the same logic as other early Spydercos, yours was probably manufactured somewhere in the period from 1992 to 1994. That was when the G-2 "alias" for GIN-1 was used. Prior to that, they were made of GIN-1, but no steel markings appeared on the blade, just the Spyderco name. After that, from about 1995 to 98, they would have been marked GIN-1.

I have both an Endura (1992) and Hunter (mid 90s) that both have G2 steel. I have been very happy with this steel and find it to be of good quality with regards to edge-holding and resistance to corrosion.

One question on the G2. Deacon, i hear you say this is Gin-1? I always thought G2 was a tool steel  Do you have any more info on this steel?
