Were any of the police Recruit's made with micarata handles? If not, will Busse put some on if anyone sends it back to the shop?

I'm not sure whether Busse released any PR's with micarta handles, but I've seen one with lovely wood handles lying around this forum some place.

I imagine Busse would put on some micarta scales for you, but it may cost a little. You'd have to call Jerry and company for details on the modification.

BTW, if you do get the handles re-done, please post some pics and your impression of it. We're always hungry for Busse pics!

I agree, Ryu. Stainless pins, however, could be utilized. But, all this will definitely cost the customer significantly, I believe.

They'd have to be fairly big ss screws. The PR I used to own had holes big enough to fit the tip of my pinky through. They would have to be like .5" jobbies. I think the standard Busse SS screws were .25". Yeah cost would be an issue.

I believe I have the Police Recruit that previously appeared in this forum. I picked it up at a show in North Carolina a few weeks ago in a trade.

I called Jerry and he indicated that he did not put the handles on it.

They are walnut burl and beautiful. I found a sheath to match it and I intend to carry it. The job was very well done and no holes are visible. Stainless pins were used.

Once I figure out how to post a picture to this site, I will show it again for those interested.

We did make several, (less than 10) that had micarta handles direct from the shop. However, as Ryu pointed out, the holes are too large for bolts or fasteners. The ones that we handled were made without these "monsterous" holes and instead had 1/4" holes in the tang. It made for a very nice package.

Boris,

I've never seen the Recruit that you have in person, but thought that the pictures of it looked awesome. Nice find.

Yours in nuclearecruits,

Jerry Busse

Thanks for the info guys. I'm buying one and was just wondering what my options would be in the handle category. For those of you who have Police Recruit's or have handled one, what does the knife feel like in the hand? Does it lack in comfort because it has no handles?

Scotty, the Police Recruit feels very natural in the hand. The handle also is canted so you can really "lean" into hard cuts.

Um, I did have the police recruit mentioned. And it was fine until yesterday.

A friend gave me a walrus ivory belt buckle and, as I was taking off my belt to try it on, the knife slid off and hit the edge of his chrome and glass coffee table.

The pins were put into the burl pretty tight and the wood was not stablized. So.....the left scale looks like the San Andreas Fault. Since this knife is a user as I think all Busse's should be, and anything and everyone in my household suffers from wear and tear,I didn't think it would matter, except for the emails I've been getting about this little guy and the request for pics. I can carry it cracked. The tang, of course, dented the coffee table, but looks no worse for the wear.

My friend almost felt as bad as I did and arrived at a pretty good solution. I will have it this weekend and post the "before" and "after" pics to the board after I clear out of the Forge.
