Hey, Spyderco fans. I'm winding up to replace my SS Police, which I gave to a friend a couple years ago, and I'm faced with the dilemma as to which edge type I should choose. So... Help me decide!
Full Spyderedge? Plain? What's your poison, for this particular model?
I think perhaps fully-serrated would be a good choice... sorta classic for this model, iconic if you will. That, and my other Spydies are all PE.
What say you folks? :D

The Police and the Endura in Full Spyder Edge is very vicious looking.

Now on terms of functionality, it depends what you cut!

I would go for Plain edge for precise tasks or tasks that don't require a sawing motion

Either will serve you well. And you can do almost everything with a SE that you can do with a PE, from peeling an apple to sharpening a pencil. The SE excels at certain task (in my view) like opening clam shell packages. So I think you are groovy with either flavor.

On the police model I prefer fully serrated as it looks so frigging cool!

Sharpening is a pain though...

You can get a triangular shaped sharpening stone it fits all of the spyderco serrations and on each corner theres a different size of curve for different size serrations, and the flat bits inbetween are for your plain edge
i belive its called the lansky spyder sharpener :D

To the op:

It really depends on your needs, PE and SE are good with the police. If you expect that you will be cutting lots of rope or you won't be sharpening your knife for long period of time. Then I will go for the SE. If not then just go for the PE.

My SE to PE ratio is almost 2:1 ;)

Are you set on getting the original version or have you considered the newer, longer G10 version? I'd normally say to get plain edge for ease of resharpening with the newer model (my personal favorite edc for a year running). The older one really is the iconic serrated blade.

Personally I like the combo edge on all my folders. I mostly stick with plain edge on all fixed blades.

I have a G 10 Police SE...I should use it more than I do. It must look

scary to nkp. It'll cut just about anything.

New G10 - either PE or SE, but old SS Police - only SE.
It was designed for SE(in my opinion). It offers maximum cutting power in slim package.

I agree, SS Police just looks right with teeth. I actually passed up one of those since it was plain-edged.

Yes, the full serrated version is iconic, so if you're building a shrine, get one. ;) On the other hand, if you're looking for a user and most of you knives are plain edge, get that.
