Okay, here's a question that's been plaguing me for a few months now. I have about 15 "blems" of various models in my "blem" box.
In the past, I promised myself that I wouldn't sell any blems because I wanted GH to sell only first quality khukuris. My plan was to lug them back to Nepal with me and exchange them for new ones (something that Lalit was happy to do for me). However, I thought that maybe the forumites would like these things - could use them for knocking around with no care in the world for scratching, handle-chipping, rusting, etc.
All of the blems are functional. Most of them either have handle cracks or chips (minor ones), or else they have minor cosmetic flaws on the blade (a fold line, some minor pitting from accidental rust-during-transit, or, at worst, a "wobbly" blade (but is still functional).
The question is: should I preserve the GH policy of "no blems", or should I do a once-a-year blem closeout?
Because I try to minimize my "commercialism" on this site, please realize that taking them back with me would be the most profitable (although admittedly, a pain in the rear), as I'd get replacements that I could sell at retail prices. Also, I'd probably be encouraging people to delay purchase of a normal GH in favor of a blem. However, if you guys want something to use with wanton abandon for blade survival, they are yours.
Here's how it'd work:
1) A "blem" would cost $35.00 including US shipping.
2) You'd be guaranteed a khukuri that is functional and okay looking.
3) All sales would be final, and there would be no guarantee.
4) You'd be able to request a particular model (I have at least one of most models), but you'd basically get what I have available.
5) There are no 20 inch AKs, Dragons, or 20 inch sirupatis in the pile. Most are standard sized models: World Wars, Panawals, SN1s, etc. I do have a couple of more expensive models (i.e. brass handled WW), but they'll cost the same $35.00.
If you want one of these, drop me a line on this forum, then drop a check in the mail (or email me to use a credit card). If this is a half-baked idea, say so! I've got thick skin.
