Policy Question: Should GH sell its Years worth of Blems?

Okay, here's a question that's been plaguing me for a few months now. I have about 15 "blems" of various models in my "blem" box.

In the past, I promised myself that I wouldn't sell any blems because I wanted GH to sell only first quality khukuris. My plan was to lug them back to Nepal with me and exchange them for new ones (something that Lalit was happy to do for me). However, I thought that maybe the forumites would like these things - could use them for knocking around with no care in the world for scratching, handle-chipping, rusting, etc.

All of the blems are functional. Most of them either have handle cracks or chips (minor ones), or else they have minor cosmetic flaws on the blade (a fold line, some minor pitting from accidental rust-during-transit, or, at worst, a "wobbly" blade (but is still functional).

The question is: should I preserve the GH policy of "no blems", or should I do a once-a-year blem closeout?

Because I try to minimize my "commercialism" on this site, please realize that taking them back with me would be the most profitable (although admittedly, a pain in the rear), as I'd get replacements that I could sell at retail prices. Also, I'd probably be encouraging people to delay purchase of a normal GH in favor of a blem. However, if you guys want something to use with wanton abandon for blade survival, they are yours.

Here's how it'd work:

1) A "blem" would cost $35.00 including US shipping.

2) You'd be guaranteed a khukuri that is functional and okay looking.

3) All sales would be final, and there would be no guarantee.

4) You'd be able to request a particular model (I have at least one of most models), but you'd basically get what I have available.

5) There are no 20 inch AKs, Dragons, or 20 inch sirupatis in the pile. Most are standard sized models: World Wars, Panawals, SN1s, etc. I do have a couple of more expensive models (i.e. brass handled WW), but they'll cost the same $35.00.

If you want one of these, drop me a line on this forum, then drop a check in the mail (or email me to use a credit card). If this is a half-baked idea, say so! I've got thick skin.

Craig, by all means, sell the blems! If you have anything in the 16-18" range, I'll take it. Email coming your way!

Hey Craig, I'm curious about the brass handled WW. I'll send you an e-mail.

Craig,

I think its a great idea - those guys who want a spare to leave in the truck of a car, or at a camp. If someone wants to mess around with handle shapes this is a good chance to mess around with one.

You don't have spare parts to any khukuri's do you that you would care to part with? I could use some handle hardware if you have it (I would of course pay your for them). Let me know.

Craig, a "once a year" blem sale is a great idea. You should have no concern about the reputation of GH or you. Scott

I'll take a WW II blem if there's one still available. Tried to email you through the "retail" connection on the web site but it doesn't appear to be working?
Thanks.

Craig do you have any 15inch sirupatis or any panawals left please email me if anything like these are available.

Hi Craig,

Not sure if you received my e-mail.... so I figured I'd repost it here

Do you have a Sirupati 15 Inch in your blem pile?

Is it possible to find out what the blem is before purchase?

Thanks!

Guys: Sorry it's taken me so long to respond (I responded to most of the emails this morning). YES, I have all of the models that you all requested. Although the knives aren't guaranteed, I can guarantee one thing: you will be very happy. Most of the blems are only cracked handles, tiny bits of rust, etc. Only a couple have wobbly blades (and even then, it's purely cosmetic - the edge is straight and in line with the handle).

And I do apologize for being "of few words" on my responses, but you can imagine how many emails I got about these things!

Promise me one thing: USE the blems!!!! At this price, I hope you drop test them off the highest cliff you can find!

$35.00 and the only problem being a hairline crack that can be epoxied right up. A heck of a bargain in my opinion.

Also, I have now depleted my entire inventory of blems, so I have to graciously close the offer. Unless you've either emailed me privately, or have posted above, that's all I have

Frankly, I am amazed that there was so much response to this. I will, however, return to my policy of not selling blems but once a year. Thanks to all who participated.

I sent the first one out today. It had some grind lines on the blade, but otherwise, was a great knife.
