So what is the best way to get a dang shiny polish on your knives? To make them look like a Kershaw SS (like the 1660SS90 or the 1600SS) or as close as possible. If you are going to laser etch the knife, should you polish it up first, or after?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I am also interested in polish as well, right now I am using silver polish which works well, however I will be paying close attention to this post to find out what the best one to use is

For a mirror finish just start working you way up the sand paper grits to 2000+ Alot of makers use motor oil at 600+ as a lubricant

There are no shortcuts, just hours (days?) of work ahead of you. Start at the least low grit you need and work your way up, finishing on a buffing wheel or a leather strop, for instance. Doing it by hand is like writing a novel, so a Dremel or similar powertool comes in handy.

Are you wanting a polished cutting edge or the whole blade? Send me a PM I might be able to help you for free.

Pretty much the whole blade (well, one side of the blade, the other side has a DLC coating). I'm guessing this should be done before any laser etching, correct?

I polished up a stainless steel spyderco last night (the handles anyway..they were really stratched up). not sure if I did it right but it sure did put a mirror polish on it.

1) Scotch brite pad (to take out the major dings etc. I made sure to keep the angle concistant)
2) Felt pad on dremmel..autosol..about 10 mintures of work and it put a mirror polish on it. I was at medium speed (would start off low so the autosaul doesnt splash all over the place).

Maybe that will help

Yeah, I need to get a dremmel... I've been doing the old fashion (2000 grit sand paper and elbow grease). I got a fairly good shine, but not close to a mirror. I'll get a dremmel in the next few weeks.

Thanks everyone.
