I've been into astronomy and know what an optical finish looks like. Sometimes I don't know when to stop polishing. Maybe a little OCD too. I can't get a satin finish to look consistent. I try to keep the original finish for as long as possible.
For preference, I prefer a satin or crocus finish on older etched blades that’ll see light use. I prefer polished for user blades with CV steels, it keeps them from rusting or rather it slows it down.
