I really like this sword...

However I don't see anything online referancing this manufacturer "H. Ludwikow Kieice" Kieice being the town in Poland. The spine of the blade is marked (K2) and then B1788 It's about 38" long. Wood grip, nice. Here is a pict of it http://www.geocities.com/research_images/Kieice.jpg

Does anyone know any history or age on this? It has the groove down the top flat of the blade. No scabbard.. no other marks. My guess is its a cavalry sword.

It looks familar.

We were given photocopies of a book on Polish/Hungarian sabers by a customer a few years ago (were making a Szaba for him) Very informative with photos, size and hilt dimensions but all the text is in Polish, though.

I will look through it's pages to for the name and to compare your photo with. Then post what I find.

Hello Linda

Refound my old address and replying using it.

I looked through any our research books that might show this. The one I though might show this stops too early for this sword ("Ciecia Prawdziwa Szabla" by Wojciech Zablocki 1989 Publisher Wydawnictwo "Sport i Turystyka" Warszawa)

Just comparing what I do have, yours is later. Perhaps early 20th Century Military.

Hello.
It is polish cavalry sabre mark 34 (szabla kawaleryjska wzor 34). It was the last polish sabre produced before WWII. Around 40000-45000 were built. These sabres were produced in 1935-1939 made in Huta Ludwikow at Kielce.
Very good sabre (polish sabres are the best ever).
That sabre was mainly used as ceremonial weapon, but it was really fine combat tool.
Polish cavalry used it during WWII. Of course we werent attacking tanks (it is nazi lie) but Poles made some succesful charges against infantry and german cavalry units. In september 1939 there was last cavalry battle between polish and german mounted units. Only sabres and lancas (kind of spear) were used. Germans were defated despite fact that they were attacking unit.
