was wanting to know how some factory made knives have polished blades like case , kershaw , al mar and so on that sale for reasonable prices , while outhers onley ofer satin cnc'd finised bades.
Are they handpolished , crome plated or is there a automated process to polish the blades:confused:

My guess would be that it is a fully automated process. Hand polishing would take to long and and to the cost, and they definitely don't chrome plate their knives.

I personally prefer a satin finish. I like the look better and don't see the need for a mirror finish on a working knife; you are just going to scratch it up anyway. A mirror finish can look pretty good on some collector knives though.

If you are polishing in volume there are automatic polishers out there that will do the entire job for you untouched by human hands excspt for loading and unloading the machine. Automatics are designed specifically for the job at hand and are not usually readily convertable for another type of product because each product requires a specific sequence of grinding and buffing compounds coupled with the proper buff or belt combinations to achieve the proper finish.

Mirror finishes are usually the result of fine sanding or grinding to remove surface imperfections followed by buffing on one or more buffing wheels with appropriate compounds. In the polishing business there is no substitute for horse power so a dremel is not going to do the job unless you have unlimited time available.
