So I bought a Caly 3 on the exchange a week or two ago and I'm very happy with it. However, there were a few scratches on the blade that were starting to nag me. I decided to go buy some flitz and see if I could take care of it.. this is the result..IMAG1533.jpgIMAG1531.jpgScreen Shot 2014-10-27 at 2.56.46 PM.jpg

No more scratches!

That came out great. I have the Caly 3.5/ZDP and will keep this in mind as it accumulates wear marks.

Thanks! Yeah I'm pretty happy about it. Now I know I can use it and get it back to new if it gets a little scuffed up.

Out of curiosity - did you disassemble it? If not, what did you do to polish the area next to the handle?

I just used cotton swabs and gun cleaning patches. I just opened the blade to different positions to get at any parts that become exposed and worked at it until everything looked uniform. Taking it apart would have been better. When I started I just wanted to get the scratches off.. but I ended up going all the way to a semi-mirror finish because it was looking way better than I expected.

Also, it's hard to see in the picture, but the 420J2 portion polished up a little more and under good lighting the two metals have a very slight difference in color. It's pretty cool looking.

Nicely done. I hand polished my 3.5 a while back and liked the results. Although, I don't think mine is nearly as shiny as yours. Looks great!

I've used quite a bit of Flitz, but mostly on revolver and semi-auto action parts. I have a tube of it sitting here...will have to look for a knife that has a scratch or two on the blade...
That Caly with ZDP is a fine folder. Nice work you did on it...love the mirror finish...

Slick! I love it
Thanks knoefz. My father used to swear by flitz. He did a lot of knife restoration and gun smithing. Up until recently I've only ever owned knives that I beat the crap out of, so I never really tried my hand at polishing a blade. But lately I've really gotten into collecting for the sake of appreciation. This Caly was originally going to be a user for me, but now I think it's going to be a gentleman carry only. I don't even want to touch it! Lol. I've gone back and started polishing everything I can get my hands on. The first knife I ever bought myself was a Kershaw whirlwind which took some corrosion damage because I used to keep it tucked in my Army camelback.. I'm about to go at it with this flitz and see what I can do to get it looking pretty. I'm interested to see what 14c28n will look like.
