Hi there guys, I'm new here and completely new to knife making (just in the thinking stages right now). I have a question about the polished finishes you guys have on your great looking knives. I've read a lot and figured out how you get them their mirror finish, but what I haven't figured out yet is how do you keep them that way? I'm pretty sure you aren't spraying them with any sort of finish to keep them from oxidizing, so I'm kind of at a loss on how they stay nice and shiny.

Thanks in advance.

basicly a good wax, and being very carfull with the knife. with use it'll get scratched up, that's one reason on a carbon steel knife I prefere an etched finish, it doesn't stain up as easily. Although a mirror finish is less prone to staining than a satin finish and is easier to clean.

Lots of polished blades are made out of stainless, that's what protects
em from rusting. Still, even a smallish scratch will ruin the appearance
and/or self-confidence of the owner, so it comes at a price :)

Hand-rubbed satin-finish seems to be in vogue for working knifes
