I have a Rick Hinderer Firetac Extreme that I purchased a couple of months ago. To say I'm pleased with this folder is a definate understatement. It may be possible that I have found the "perfect' knife!!....and so far it has proved out. This is not the topic of my post though...............just thought I would toss it in there free of charge. ;)

The Firetac Extreme came with a black G-10 insert. The insert was standard G-10 with the textured surface and a flat black finish. I decided to dress it up a bit and removed the insert, which is held in by two small screws, and using wet/dry paper (wet of course to prevent any toxic dust) I proceeded to refinish the surface of the G-10. I started with 400 grit, then 600 grit, and finished it out with 800 grit. This really changed the appearance of the G-10. I then took my trusty Dremel tool along with some polishing wheels and the red compound that Dremel provides in their polishing kit, and continued to polish the G-10. This step really begin to bring out the gleem in the material. My final step has been to use "Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish" with a soft cloth and take the insert through several polishings. I finished it all off with a coat of Renaissance Wax and know have a piece of G-10 that looks like a black mirror! It looks absolutely fantastic to my eye. The textured part of the G-10 now has the appearance of a series of dots throughout the material.
The best part?? This was a project that really dressed up an already superb knife and it cost me nothing except my time as I already had all the material on hand! I really wish I could post a picture, but lack that capability, as my description falls short of how good it actually turned out.

This was only a small insert but I can imagine how my BM 805 would look with it's handles polished. Of course it would not be real practical on a using knife as it is a bit slippery. On the Firetac Extreme, with it's textured titanium handles, the slicker G-10 is not a problem.

Anyone have any pics they can post of polished G-10??

I have a Case Russlock in Orange G-10. While not exactly mirror polished (it still has some texture-almost looks like a "grain" pattern) it still looks different that most G-10 I have seen. It's hard to believe the handle of my military is the same material. I don't have any good pictures of it right now but in this one I left the flash on and you can see the reflection of the polished part as well as the grain.
