I know there's currently a thread going about handle scratching, but that seems more geared towards bead blasted handles. I tried a number of searches and couldn't find a thread specifically discussing polished handles, so I figured I'd post something. My apologies if this has been discussed in length already. If so, please link me to the thread.

I generally remove the clips from my knives and carry them in my pocket. So when carrying a small Seb with wood inlays, I'm torn as to whether I should put it in the pocket sheath or not. It sounds like a lot people around here do to avoid scratching since scratches on the polished Ti don't look good like they do on blasted handles. I tend to agree.

However, I feel like carrying a Seb in a pocket sheath detracts from its one-handed functionality. I can't just pull it out of my right pocket and open it one-handed, use it, close it, and put it back. Now I have to remove the sheath with the other hand and then put it back on after use which turns it into a two-handed knife. At that point, I sometimes have asked myself why not get a really nice custom slip joint?

Am I just being neurotic? Does anyone carry their polished-handled Sebs unclipped in pocket with no sheath?

I carry a CGG small with the clip and without. Usually with the clip because I don't want it to slip out of my pocket. Cases are for wimps who can't really afford the knife. :) Just joking.

I've had mine for 2 years. On the shiny side, it has some thin light scratches and the anodization is a little faded. The worst scratches are on the non-polished side because they show up against the darker background of the unpolished Ti. I like to use my knives, so scratches are part of life, just like scars, pimples, age spots, freckles, moles are part of yours.

Don't get me wrong - I totally agree. My other two Sebenzas get used a lot and are carried without a case in my pocket. I haven't had them very long, and they're already fairly banged up. However, they're bead blasted and look fine scratched up. It's the polished one I'm not so sure about.

It's weird because I've carried a Mnandi for a year in my pocket without a case, and I never thought twice about it. Maybe it's because there's less polished real estate. I don't know. I just need to stop caring.

I sometimes carry mind clipped, but usually in a sheath. On the polished surface, scratches actually bother me so I avoid them. I started a thread a little while ago without much success on removing scratches from a polished surface. I understand completely about the one hand point! I have several slipjoints that are in my rotation, but remember that you prob want those in a pouch too so that adds yet another step!

I know what would solve this! If only CRK ee finished inlayed handles ha!

I agree that once you put it in a pouch and then put it in your pocket you definitely take away from its functionality a little. I have a solution to this... Make a leather pouch with a clip! I have made them before and a while ago I said I would start making more of them.. But then I got engaged and started planning a wedding haha. Maybe I can do something about that!!

"Make a leather pouch with a clip!" I believe that Paul Long, sheathmaker, has these for both sizes of sebenzas. He's on this forum.

William Henry does make a leather pouch with a clip. They call it a clip case. I have two WH knives with the clip case and two WH knives without. Going in I was sure I would not like the clip case but it has grown on me to the point I might actually prefer it to a pocket clip.

This is as close as your going to come to getting the handles smooth (not polished) from the factory.

Just for an update, I've been carrying my small snake wood inlay Seb for a couple weeks now unclipped in my pocket with no sheath/pouch. It's getting scratched up through carry and use, but it really doesn't bother me at all. I got a polished clip insert from CRK which is a really nice touch. I figure once it accumulates enough scratches, it will start to look uniform across the whole thing which is what has happened to a couple of my polished Ti flashlights.
