polished hardware

I see a lot of pics of CRK's with polished hardware. Is this all aftermarket hardware or diy polishing of the factory hardware? I was thinking of trying to polish mine by putting the screw/barrel in a drill chuck and spinning it against a rag with some polishing compound (I was thinking of using green chromium oxide because I plan on buying some for a strop setup I want to make). I'd appreciate any advice.

Many, if not most, of the knives came from the factory with polished hardware. My 3 Regulars and 1 21 all have it, as did the '93 I foolishly sold :(.

I polished/satin finished all of mine, myself. I either chuck them in the lathe or in a drill motor/drill bank and applied polish or scotch brite depending which finish I was after.

How are you guys chucking them? I'd probably try mounting a small dowel or something, but curious to know how you do it.

ChromOx should do well for this. When I polish hardware is always do it by hand, but chucked up in the press sounds like a great idea. I may try this.

I chuck them gently into the jaws or I also have threaded inserts that hold the part so the threads don't get flattened.

Ditto, no problems with this method.

I usually use some cardboard and .25m diamond spray, tiny mirrors in seconds.

I hold mine with my fingers and use a scotch brite wheel attachment for my Dremmel, slow speed and in a circular motion.
