Polished Scales on the TILT?

I was examining my Tilt and noticed the inside of the carbon fiber scale is shinny and I liked the look of it. I was thinking of polishing the carbon fiber to give it a nice shine and wanted to know if anyone has done this yet and wanted to share some pics? Also, is there any "dangers" to damaging the scale, I imagine as long as I dont go through the finish it should be fine.

I was going to use 1200 sandpaper and do a light once over then use a bench top grinder with a buffing wheel.

I haven't seen anyone do it to the tilt yet, but it will certainly work. Make sure to use wet/dry paper and keep it wet. Wear a respirator just in case. Keep the strokes long and go slow. It's easy to go too deep and mess up the pattern if you aren't careful. Also, I'd recommend using very light pressure on the buffer. Finally, make sure to post pics when you're done. :D

.I didn't think you could get a shine like that with out some type of gel coat.

Glad you like her.... I would contact someone who has knowledge in cf. Its shiny on the other side because that was the side that was cut from the mold giving that appearance..but it is not finished like the side you want to polish.

I just polished up a handle on a Jonnymac Knife [great knife! Love it!] . It had some pin hole voids in CF that he had at 600 grit. I layed down a thin coat of cyanoacrylate glue. I used the thin odorless foam safe stuff for foam rc planes. Then I used 320 grit to smooth out and drip lines. I then used 1500 grit and wiping with simple green. Then I iused the 1500 with Brasso for a final polish. Its nice and shiny now. Brasso is the same a Flitz.

They are rounded scales though so keeping the pattern wasn't important. I don't
know how that would work on flat scales.
