Polished Spine BA-E

I just received my first BA-E from a fellow forumite. It's a sweet one. My question concerns the polished spine on my particular knife. The spine is polished from the tip of the blade all the way around the butt end of the handle and terminates just beyond the apex of the front talon hole. Does anyone know if this was done at the factory or if it is a second-hand mod? I ask because my NO-E is totally coated. Also, the handle of the BA-E is very near flush with the scales on the top and bottom of the tang. The NO-E has approximately 1/16" of INFI poking out beyond the scales. I like the polished spine better as it's more comfortable. Thanks.

I think it was probably original. The NO-e that I bought from Shomer-Tec came this way also. I have subsequently stripped it, but here is what it looked like initially:

That's what my BA-E looks like except that the choil on mine is coated. The polishing stops just beyond the highest point of the talon hole. I guess Jerry was pretty hammered when he polished that one up:eek:;). Thanks for the info. Anyone else got an idea about this?

factory, on mine half of the choil is polished and abrubtly is coated for the other half.

Variation of this type from the factory is not unusual from the beginning through the E-handles. At one time I owned three of the Clip Point Desert NO's (now Resinguy has one and I have his Ruck) and every one of them had a different spine polishing scheme. On one the spine was double-cut, one was polished down the spine and entirely around the handle, and on one the spine was polished but the handle was left coated.
