Polishing a blade

So i have an "Schrade extreme survival" that I have been playing with the last few days. I removed all of the paint off of the surface with aircraft paint remover and have been taking the blade to my 6" bench buffer. It is turning out beautiful, but taking some time. I have been taking it really slow as to not heat the blade up too much. Are there any tricks to polishing stainless that will make this process any quicker? Also is there anything I can do to check the heat treatment to make sure the blade isn't getting too hot. Any help would be much appreciated. So here are some progress pics...

First thing: Be CAREFUL with that buffer! It can grab that blade and heave it across the room so fast you won't even see it move.

As long as you can keep your fingers on the blade, it's under 130F and not going to be affecting the heat treatment. If it gets too warm to hold on to comfortably, ease off a bit.

That is coming out absolutely stunning, by the way!

Thanks for the warning and information. I know all about the blade being flung, when i first started it grabbed and smashed it against my tool wall. Luckily i wasn't hurt. Also, thank you so much for the compliment. This is the first time i ever used the buffer to polish something like this. I did polish some quad parts by hand but never with a wheel and compound. I cant wait until its finished, the handle is getting painted black.
