hi this is my first thread here so be kind.

i have a fällkniven H1 that i find to be alittle rough and i have been thinking of polishing it.. but i have never polished anything other than epoxy and i find metal to be a bit harder to get smooth, heh as metal beeing harder..

i have some wet sanding sheets 1200 so i did a test run om a kitchen knife

"knowing a testrun is wise after i used my Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Double Bevel to learn sharpening.. it looks like crap now"

so this is what i got from the test

have in mind i do not have no electric grinder..

i apprichiate any help and input

you are going to need some finer grits than 1200 and some buffing compound. work up to 2000 grit and start using the buffing compound

most buffing compounds come in a small jar or tube, usualy paste or gel like consistency. you can use a rag to apply it, if you had a grind you would use a felt pad/wheel

bought some to day and it worked like a charm.. superglued wool polishing rolls to a bolt and used a drill :)

as for the "H1" etch on the blade, should i mask it up with tape and just accept that it will be alittle rough metal in the logo? or is there som trick for this area.. guessing that it will be grinded away easely

thanks for the help so far :)

Would the polish take out scratches on a knife that was slightly abused? Not too deep, but would like to smooth them off, if possible. Where do you buy polish and what kind?

im guessing that would take alot of work.. i sat about 8 hours rubbing with different grits to get my from this:

and im not finish on this side yet :-/

i had no deep grooves in my blade..

just the polishing paste would not take ut much grooves.. the hardware store should have some

thought i`d post the result of all my painstaking work over the last days..

pretty happy with the finish but theres like a microfog if i look closely with a bright light close to the blade :-/

thats actually from the polishing weel as i polished vertically from the handle to the tip.. i`ll try going horizontally to morrow, the drill battery keeps dying after 20min use :(

I was going to tell you to be prepared for along time sanding but it looks like you found that out. I am an beginning knife maker and my use of the belt grinder is awful so I end up doing alot of finishing work with the dremel and by hand.
It takes along time to polish even a small piece of steel and to get it perfect you have to finish by hand. I don't like big buffing machines as they can screw up the temper and looks shiney/flashy. I use a dremel with cut out pieces of sandpaper the size of quarters(cheap) to make everything flat and finish by hand going from lower to higher grits.
