Polishing blade

I was wondering if anyone has removed the black T coating on their emerson and polished the blade. Was thinking about doing this at some point as my coating wears.

I used some sandpaper to remove the black coating on my HD-7. I forget which grit exactly, maybe 100 or 140? I made sure to only move the sandpaper in one direction for a consistent finish. The blade now has a "smokey" appearance now. I believe if I kept sanding I could have gotten a more reflective finish, but I like the subdued look. Best of luck ;).

it takes a lotta sanding to get to a nice satin finish on a coated knife but it can be done.

if i was wanting to remove the coating on a knife i would get it beadblasted myself, its a lot less work & a machine shop doesnt charge much to do it.

come on guys.. lets see some pics of those finished products..

Bro...Jah. I had an HD and sold it for a CQC-7. Don't freek. :eek: The CQC-7 is MY Emerson.

The black coating should be able to be stripped chemically, sanding it is an option but can be a good amount of work to get a good even finish.
If you have a satin buffing wheel on a bench grinder that would work too and be much quicker, just dont let the blade get too hot when using any powered tools.
Bead blasting would be my first choice though as I like the bead blast finish and its fairly quick and easy. Just about any auto-shop or most machine shops can do it for you if you dont have access to the equipment your self.

You sold an Emerson! :eek::D

Ya, too ME;)

heres a couple of pics. The first pic shows the krein 'laser' grind and the factory emerson satin finish on the front of the blade, the second shows the back of the blade stripped and bare. Its a nice satin when stripped.
