I've always dry stropped to be rid of any wire edge, so I don't know.
What polishing compound is the finest and will produce the keenest edge?
Red?
White?
Green?
Blue?
Do I need four strops and one of each compound to get a blade as sharp as is possible?
Five strops and add the black cutting compound and forget using a hone/stone?
Two of my knives have CPM154, and one has D2.
Do polishing compounds do anything to these steels, aside from clean off any smudges and fingerprints?
(I "know" I need a diamond or SiC stone/hone or a ceramic to sharpen those three knives. My Arkansas stones/hones don't seem to do much (if anything) to those blades. I've been using the bottom of an (empty) ceramic coffee cup to maintain those edges, since that is what I have.)
