Polishing Compounds

What color of polihing compound is equivalent to 600 grit? I thought it was black, but I am not sure.
What is also the grit of green compound. Someone told me it was 2000?

I haven't been able to verify this, but Sears black compound is reputed to be approx 600 grit. I have some SIC lapping compound from a lapidary shop that's been graded at 600 grit and it appears to be a bit finer than the emery. Can't speak for the green - usually .5 micron or less. That far down the scale the various ratings diverge quite a bit - there's sticky at the very top of the subforum.
