polishing endura clip?

Assuming you are going to do it by hand, remove the clip and use sandpaper to progressively remove the black paint. I don't think you'll end up with a mirror polished clip, more of a satin finish. I use a Dremel to knock the paint off mine.

The paint on these comes off very easy , you really dont need any power tools just varying grits of sandpaper , in the end you should still have the Spyderco logo on the clip with black in the recess , I think it looks cool that way.

what's the best way to polish the black clip on my endura and take of the black coating?

If you really want to polish it, rather than go for a matte finish, I recommend using chemical stripper to remove the paint. The reason for this is that the grits you need to mechanically remove the paint will put scratches in the clip that will be a lot more work to polish out than if you remove the paint chemically. I was impatient and used a maroon pad to remove the softened paint after I soaked it in brush cleaner, which is essentially liquid paint stripper. The pad left some scratches that are quite fine, but visible. The raw clips are pretty smooth before they get coated.

Once the paint is gone you can use abrasives that are very fine to polish the metal, much finer than would be effective for removing the black coating. Jeweler's rouge and Cr2O3 come to mind.

I stripped the clip on my D4 wave and left it dull. This is a work knife. The spider logo retains some of the black in the thin outline, and so it shows up better than before.

Paint stripper and a buffing wheel with compound will yield a mirror polished clip in minutes.

When you use paint stripper always cover the item in said chemical and then wrap it up in cling wrap which will keep the chemical from drying out as fast and allow it to work for a longer period of time. I have a write-up on the ESEE site showing this and it works SO much better than the method of allowing the chemical stripper to dry.
