Polishing my SOG Pengaton Elite II

Got myself a Elite 2 on Sunday and spend the pass 2 days with in in my pocket. Without fail, the bead blasted surface started to spot rust....

Took apart the knife and used a Dremel to polish the blade. Currently, the blade is not really mirror-finish but resembles any other normal blade without the bead blasted thingee.

Putting together the knife is a killer especially aligning the 4 "plastic" shims/washers that go on either sides of the blade and the blade itself with the hole that the screw goes through.

Made the mistake of sharpening the knife with my DMT yesterday.... The assembling took me 3 hours and about 1/2 pint of blood.

Advise: Try not to start what I did at about 9 pm at night. My eyes see things blur now, my brain is not working and my fingers are preventing me from sleeping.

If the "polished" blade starts rusting again tomorrow. I'll start throwing bricks up into the sky.

That's odd. I've never heard of (AUS8?) rusting so easily. But Signapore is pretty humid, right?

Nah, AUS 8 is ok. I've been using my CS Gunsite for about 2 years with hardly any maintainance done on it except for sharpening. No rust whatever so.

It's the bead blasting finishes that attracts rust. You wouldn't believe the condition of my CRKT F4... I used it a lot with no oiling and it rusts worse than carbon steel. Funny thing is that the cutting edge didn't develop any rust even with all the scratches from my DMT.

sean, have you tried the abrasive paper method to get a satin finish? or by using metal wool?

oh, and welcome to the forums!

nice to have anor guy from the land of lions...(well, the asiatic lion may well have been found in singapore in the 1400s)

btw, you've got mail!

:D
