Last night i found a container of mother's mag and aluminum polish I used it and cardboard and polished my first edge to almost a mirror's Finish needless to say it took the edge to the next level of sharp:D but i have a few questions on polishing an edge,

first off it seems foolish to use a stone after going to the trouble of putting a mirror edge on it can i maintain my edge by routinely polishing/stropping it? also according to the container the mother's polish is poisonous is it ok to still use the knife for food prep (cutting up apples oranges...etc) after washing it with soap and water?

thanks for any info, once again polishing an edge is new to me, but i can see how its addictive i now have my mora sharp enough that it will slice a piece of paper towel:)

Yes. By all means, you can maintain your edge on a strop. In fact, once the edge is truly sharp, that's the preferable way to maintain it. Removes a lot less metal that way. Use the polish on the strop, or use bare leather (or, bare leather AFTER the polish, if you want).

Don't worry about the polish being toxic. Just clean the blade as you normally would (soap & water, alcohol, Windex, etc.), and you'll be fine. None of that toxic stuff will stay on the blade, so long as you wash it.

By the way, CONGRATULATIONS on your newly-found sharpening prowess! :)
