I recently purchased a set of Boride Silicon Carbide polishing stones (150/220/320.400/600).

What is the best way to "bevel" or "round off" the square edge to facilitate working the plunge line...or make things easier overall?

Also, ok to use WD40 with them?

Thanx.

I use my disc grinder. You don’t have to be exact. They’ll conform. I just grind in a knife edge and the rock it back and forth a bit to put in a slight curve for the hollow ground bevel. Then I use the “bevel” of the knife edge for the bulk of the blade and the tip of the knife edge for the back reaches of the plunge. I also use WD40.

I purchased one of the air profilers and with that I just start with the stone square and it quickly shapes itself to whatever you are working on. Works great.

I’ve just been using the cutting oil that Boride sells because they sent me a bunch with everything I bought. I’m sure WD-40 would work just fine

anyone else use mineral oil?

Yeah, Lorien, I do. I've used 0w-20 (wife's car oil), mineral oil, and WD-40. Honestly, I use whichever of the 3 is closest to me at the time! I put some 0W-20 in a spray bottle to use as cutting fluid when drilling holes, and it is convenient for sanding/polishing lubricant.

All seem to work well, but I prefer the thinner WD-40. Just a personal preference.
