Esteemed gentlemen,

I am trying to polish a carbon steel blade that I acid etched a while ago. All I have is fine grit sand paper, semi chrome, and elbow grease. Unfortuantely, there are still some stubborn dark spots that wouldn't go away. Is there anything I may try to get a nice satin finnish?

Kindly strew some pedals of wisdom upon the prostrated body of your humble servant.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy yourself a nice buffer for about $99. Then get some gloves and lots of bandages and pain killers.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

One of the most important things you'll need to go with that sandpaper is a sanding block. Get one of the .99 ones from Home Depot, or slot a piece of hardwood. The sandpaper will work much more efficiently, and you'll be able to keep your scratches all going in the same direction much easier.

Thanks guys, I found a combination that worked for me.

I decided I hate sandpaper, they tear up way too easily. Emery cloth and wet/dry sanding sponge are great. Maybe I'll try diamond paste next time.
