I want to polish my satin finish blade to a mirror finish. I figure I'll just sand it by hand until it's nice and shiny.

I have some 3m sandpaper ranging from 800 - 2000 grit. What else do you recommend? I tested a little bit and it seems 2000 is not fine enough.

Chromiun oxide paste on a linen belt on a belt sander.

Or CrO on a felt pad and lots of hand work.:thumbdn:

I have used Flitz and obtained a mirror finish on a really old Queen City jack knife that was rusted and pitted. I rubbed on those blades for about 4 hrs. on and off, but obtained clear mirror image. You may be able to cut some hours using something more abrasive at first.

The more grits you use the better the polish will become, 2000 will leave a almost mirror finish if you put the elbow grease into it.
