Political Ads on BF threads

I hang out on the trad forum quite a bit. I read threads there daily. I know ads are posted in threads to help pay for the site, I get it. However, over in traditionals it is frowned upon when people show a distaste for knives of Chinese origin. The mods chime in that it is forbidden to discuss the "politics" of it. Yet in the past few days I am seeing political ads in the threads!!!! Seriously!!! How many more are we going to see closer to elections? Shutting off the tv and getting on BF should be an escape from the political ads that choke our mainstream media.

I am going to reply to my own thread. Do you see what I mean?!
I don't know who that guy is but I am tired of looking at him!

Hi Carbon,
I may be wrong in this, but i think the ads that are displayed are based on your browsing history (cookies). So, based on things you've searched for before, pages visited, etc. that is what determines the kinds of ads you see. Everyone that sees the ads sees different ads as not everyone browses for the same things. We don't see ads as mods, and there is nothing we can do to control what type of ad you get served up. If you want to escape the ads, you can buy a membership for $10/year or get yourself some sort of ad blocking plug in for your browser. Hope this helps.

Rev, I recall a BF member a while back complaining that he was seeing sexually explicit ads on BF. If my shriveled brain remembers correctly, it turned out that he was seeing those particular ads because of his search history outside of BF. Good counsel from you about buying a membership or getting an ad blocker.

This is correct, I have gyms I researched, sharpening stones, danner boots, showing up on mine. From time to time.

You are correct, and if I remember correctly, he never addressed that issue. ;)

PN, I recall that situation now that you mention it. It was a much ado about not a lot. :)

Coincidentally, When not logged in I'm getting ads for Danner boots, technical schools, computer parts, and fishing.

Why am I getting ads about erectile dysfunction, hair replacement, weight loss, and bootleg monkey hormones?
