was looking at the poliwog today, and seems neat little knife. wondering if anyone actually owns one and how did they justify the price.

I thought that it was a neat little knfe until I carried one for a bit. It takes a lot of pocket space for so small a blade. It has one Hell of a lock, however! ;)

I've had one for about a year. It's a neat design and very well manufactured. It's a little on the heavy side. It does some things well like opening boxes U"utility knife"), but it's a little awkward for other uses like spreading peanut butter on bread. In my mind, an EDC knife must spread peanut butter efficiently.

Neat design. A lot of cutting power in a small package. Pretty Sheeple friendly too as it doesn't look like a knife when closed and unless someone is paying close attention, doesn't notice it much when it is opened. It does take up some real estate in the pocket but not enough to deter me from carrying it. It has smooth rounded edges so you don't scrape half of your hand off everytime you stick your hand in your pocket. I like mine alot but since I've bought other knives since the Polliwog, I don't carry it much, but I won't get rid of it either. Again, nice little knife.

i´m thinking of getting one too, i like the design, just got my scorpius today (edc for work, "handyman"), i like the blade of the scorp, and the poli seems to have a similar blade. however i think the scorp is a bit too wide when closed, so i can just imagine how wide the poliwog will be, it even looks real "fat" in the pics when closed so i dont know what i´ll do here. what im looking at right now is poliwog, dodo, yojimbo, and persian, or maybe a civilian (just to f**k with people at work, for fun). of those only the poliwog seems to be too "fat" for my pockets, but i bet its nice when handling it, a bit pricey tho.

Pricey, lets talk about the Spin. I bought at the army store for 60 bucks. It bought it to replace my box cutter. Anyone who has ever worked in a grocery store know the little flat box cutters I'm talking about. Anyways its worth every penny, that little knife was made to use. I don't have a poly, but the army store has one too, so I knifesterbated with it. I like it a lot and think it is worth the cost. Very well made, and looks like a great out of the box type design. Let us know if you end up getting one.

MWadel, snag a Yo while you can! The others with the exception of the dodo are readily available. Take care and God Bless!:D

I own a poly and though it is a little heavy and a little wide in the pocket I would strongly recommend it. I justified the price by the following facts. It is a great knife with exceptional cutting ability. Furthermore it is a unigue design and a work of art that can be carried everyday.

I like mine a lot - very unique. Just from a different perspective, I am the last person on earth who would want to have to use a knife for SD, but the wog is really something is a reverse ice pick grip. It's hard to imagine a better sticker in a phone booth. But don't buy one for that reason, it's just a neat knife.

next salary.. i hope i can still get both in blue by then. never had a spydie before, but i´ve always loved their designs, and now i know they are good too. even cheap for what you get imo.

the yo would be a substitute for my 1$ throw-away boxcutters, i do a lot of precision work and really need that straight pointy edge, cant think of a better knife for the application really. i like knives so i should do it with style, dont you think. :D boxcutters sucks, and they are so unsexy.

the dodo i just have to have, i knew it first time i saw it, i need this knife. remember you dont pick the knives you like, they pick you.. just never had the cash to order one before (i was on a low/tight budget before).

*bump*

I'm wondering if the Wog can be a good keychain knife? Can you remove the clip so you have a lanyard hole for the keyring? Or, is there a hole there already?

I'm debating between this knife and the CRVT Van Hoy Snap Lok 2 for keychain knives. Thoughts?

Davebuck-

The Spyderco Poliwog would be, in my opinion, too heavy to serve well as a keychain knife. In my belief, a keychain knife serves as a backup or supplement to the EDC that one carries in his or her pocket and is not the primary edged tool to carry. That being said, a medium-sized knife like the Poliwog would be in the definite upper (size) echelon of keychain knives. However, with its wide design, heavy stainless steel handles, comprably heavy ball lock, and other features, it would not favorably impress you as a keychain knife. However, it is a good design for pocket carry and some EDC use. Also, the CRKT Van Hoy SnapLok 2 is also a less-than-acceptable keychain knife in my personal opinion and was not designed for that purpose (or, as far as I can tell, for any real purpose to begin with).

In the department of true keychain knives, I highly recommend to you the new Spyderco Ladybug 3 (in fiberglass reinforced nylon---FRN---or stainless steel handles), the Spin, or the carbon fiber or FRN Cricket. These designs would serve much better in the capacity of a keychain carried knife than those choices you have listed. All of these designs would completely, to put it bluntly, "own" the CRKT design in utility and performance. These designs cut like much larger knives and have some of the highest quality in the production industry, especially for the price.

I hope I helped.

God bless you, America, our Allies, and our men and women overseas.

KATN,

Wade

I have a Dodo which has a somewhat similar shape and the same lock. The Dodo isn't VG-10 so I can't comment on that. But I can tell you that the lock is very solid. The handle shape is also similar, has a great grip.

Hallowed be the Wog!

Great little knife! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Just got a Poliwog recently after getting 2 Natives (VG10 and sv30). It's a little weird, but surprisingly functional. I like it because it's one handed, not back lock like the Native and Kiwi. You'll be surprised how big it seems in your pocket and surprised how small it seems as you open and close it.

If the poliwog is light enough to fit on your keychain, you need to move to a safer place.
